As more educators move towards individualized instruction and personalized learning plans, a common practice is to conference with students/parents in order to set individualized goals for students. While JumpRope doesn't have this exact feature built in, our powerful differentiation tools make it possible to create and track individualized goals using this guide.
1. Set up your "menu of goals" in the Plan tab.
Before you begin conferences, it may be useful to look at your curricular materials, existing achievement data for your students, and your resources for delivering learning experiences in order to nail down the "menu of options" that a student has. In other words, unless the "sky is the limit" it is probably valuable to do some thinking before your conferences about the goals (standards) that students can choose from.
To do this, create a unit in JumpRope and enter all of the different possible standards into the unit, even though not every student will opt in to every goal. You can always come back and edit / add to this later, including adding a goal specific to an individual student that emerges from a conference. This step is done in the Plan tab: http://support.jumpro.pe/hc/en-us/articles/200437714-Planning-Overview-of-the-Plan-tab
It is important to do this in a brand new unit (for which no scores have been entered) in order for the remaining steps to work.
2. Create a special assessment called "Goal Setting" and give it a weight of zero.
Using the instructions in the link above, create a single assessment and title it "Goal Setting" or similar and give it a weight of zero. Then, align it to all of the available standards. You may even wish to create and use a special "Assessment Type" for this assessment, as described here: http://support.jumpro.pe/hc/en-us/articles/200434960-How-do-I-customize-assessment-types-and-weights-
3. During conferences with students / parents, open the Grade tab and enter their goal for each desired standard into this special assessment
As you conference with students / parents and choose which standards are appropriate for each student, have the Grade tab open and the assessment selected. Then, enter a goal (4 if the student's goal is a 4, etc.) into each relevant cell. Leave the cell blank if the standard doesn't apply for a particular student. Don't worry: since the assessment has a weight of zero, these scores won't affect the student's grade!
4. (Optional) Print out the student's Goal Sheet from the Grade Tab by selecting Print Progress Report for this Unit in the advanced menu
Once you have entered scores into the Grade tab, you can easily print out a "goal report" by printing the "progress report" for this unit from the Grade tab. From the advanced menu (gear) in the top right of the Grade tab, select Print Progress Reports For Selected Unit as shown here:
At this point, you'll have a nicely-formatted PDF version of the goals that you can send home with the students or parents:
