This section will explain how to create and set up a unit with standards and assessments. The Plan tab give you full control over your standards and assessments and can also function much like a regular gradebooks if you plan to use the JumpRope for student feedback.
Creating a unit can be done quickly, but there are a lot of advanced options. This article will walk you through the basics, but the online tutorial (accessible via the help button in the top right of the Plan tab) will give you more information.
To create a unit, click on the Plan tab and follow these steps.
1. Optionally select a course, and click Create New Unit
2. Give the unit a title and fill out any of the optional properties.
JumpRope lets you add all sorts of contextual information (or attach files) to your units to aid in planning, but that is all optional. The only thing you have to worry about is a title, and telling JumpRope the date range that you plan to teach the unit. Click "Save" when you are done.
3. Click the new unit's title to plan that unit
Your newly-created unit will display in the units box on the right. Click the word "edit" under the unit name to go back and change any of unit details. Click the title to enter your standards (learning goals and objectives).
4. Enter (or import) your standards (the things you want students to know)
Standards in JumpRope are anything that you want your students to learn throughout the class. JumpRope counts academic learning goals in the overall student score, and lets you optionally track "character" goals (non-academic goals such as "turning in work on time" without affecting overall student scores.
5. Design Assessments (How will you get evidence of mastery?)
The final step in the JumpRope planning process is to design assessments. Assessments (sometimes called assignments) are learning experiences that give you the opportunity to assess mastery. Often, this means a test, quiz, or exit ticket. Sometimes it even means a state test or interim assessment that your school has designed. At its most basic, you may have a pre-test, post-test, and one or more interim assessments. Regardless of your approach, you can add and modify assessments in step 3 of the Plan tab:
Next step: Entering Scores
Once you've created a unit, one or more standards (learning goals / objectives), and one or more assessments, you're ready to enter scores. Click here to learn about entering scores!
