Because standard-based grading is more complex than traditional grading - and because planning curriculum is an important part of any teacher's job - JumpRope has separated Planning from Grading. This article will give you a brief overview of the Plan tab in JumpRope.
First, your curriculum can be organized into units (your school may call these something different, such as case studies, projects, etc. - you may also choose to simplify by creating a single unit for the whole year).
A Unit contains a collection of standards and assessments that fit within a logical grouping. Two common ways to model units are as units/chapters of study from your curriculum or as topics. The best way to think of units in JumpRope is as a collection of related standards - if your standards span the entire school year or term, it may be best to use a single unit per course.
Step 1: Learn how to create units in this article.
One you have created a unit, the next step is to add standards (your school may call these learning targets, outcomes, objectives, etc.). In JumpRope, a standard is simply something that you want students to know. To enter standards, first create and save a unit and then click on the unit's title to "zoom in" to the second step of the Plan tab.
Step 2: Learn how to create standards in this article.
The third (and final) step of the planning process is to create one or more assessments that are aligned to these standards. An assessment (also known as an assignment of evidence) is simply a learning activity (classwork, homework, quiz, test, project, observation, etc.) that gives you evidence of student learning that can be scored in JumpRope. To create an assessment, first create a unit and add standards. Then, click on the link to Step 3 of the plan tab (near the top of your screen beneath the Plan tab itself) to "zoom in" to the third step of the Plan tab.
