What's important to know?
Once you've selected a report from the Report List, you'll be taken to a full-screen view of the report so that you can see as much data as possible. To run the report initially, select filters from the left hand screen and click Apply. To return to the report list, use the browser back button or click the back arrow in the top left. To refresh a report (and reset any sorting & filtering you've applied), refresh your browser page or use the Undo, Redo, and Reset buttons at the top of the report. Note that if you navigate away from the report your filters and sorts will not be saved. To save any report, export the data prior to navigating away from the report page.
Filters
The first step for any report is to choose any relevant data filters on the left. Filters are on a single data field at a time and can be of any of the following types:
- Choose One - a drop down where you can select one value at a time.
- Choose Many - a list of values where you can pick one or more values. If you don't select any values, all values will be included by default.
- Date Range - choose a start and/or end date to filter data on a date range.
- Typed Value - type a value to filter or search the report.
Make any necessary selections to filter the data to your desired data set, and click the Apply button in the bottom left to load the report data.
View and Export
Once the report is loaded, you have a few options to manipulate the data. Again, please note that at this time, any of the following changes will not be saved to the report and you will lose them if you close or refresh your browser. You can export the data to save a version of the report with the changes applied.
- Sort the data. Most reports have a default natural sort, such as by student name or standard title. You can change this by clicking any cell in a column and using the floating toolbar to sort ascending or descending. You can sort on multiple columns and the sort will be done in the order you applied the filters. You can un-sort on a column by re-selecting the same sort again after a sort has been applied.
- Undo/Redo/Reset. On the left side of the toolbar at the top of the report are undo, redo, and reset buttons that will undo the latest sort or change you've applied within the report. The Reset option will take you back to the default sort. Note that this does not affect the filters applied in the options column.
- Export Data. On the left side of the toolbar at the top of the report is an export button that will export all pages of data in the report, including any Options filters, column filters, and sorting you have applied in your current view.
- Zoom In and Out. Use the +/- buttons on the right side of the toolbar to zoom in or out on the report.
- Resize a column. (Table-based reports only) Click any cell in a column and use the caret on the right side of the floating toolbar to resize a column.
- Filter on a column. (Table-based reports only) In addition to the global filters available on the left side of the report page, you can further filter an individual data column. To do so click on any cell in the desired column and select the funnel icon from the floating toolbar. Then choose a filter and filter value and click Okay to apply. This filter will apply in addition to any filters chosen in the options on the left hand side of the report page.
- Change Pages on Paginated Reports. (Table-based reports only) Table-based reports are presented one page at a time, as they can contain many thousands of rows. Use the Next, Previous, First, and Last buttons to change pages, or type in the page number to update the data visible on the screen. Note: exporting the data will always export all pages.
Fields commonly seen in Mastery by Course & Proficiency reports
- Parent Standard Title - The top-level standard which contains one or more child standards. You may have your own name for this, but we use this term for consistency in reports. Sometime referred to as Strand, Domain, Long-Term Target, etc.
- Child Standard Title - The lower-level, directly-assessed standard. This is the level at which complex calculations such as the Power Law or Decaying Average are applied if your school chooses to use them. Sometimes referred to as Learning Targets, Outcomes, Short-Term Targets, etc.
- Score Label - This is the default output of the mastery calculation for this row. Depending on your settings and the data type being reported on, this may be a rounded number on your mastery scale (e.g. 0-4, 1-4, 1-100), a mastery code (e.g. M for Meeting, E for Exceeding, AP for Approaching), or a converted course grade.
- Score - In contrast to the Score Label which will vary based on your settings, the Score field will always be an un-rounded numeric value that you can use in aggregations. If your school uses a Course Conversion as the authoritative course score, you will see the converted score in the Score field for Course Mastery reports.
