Report Types
- Table Report Type. A table-based report is very much like a spreadsheet. While it may be showing calculated values (such as a course grade that has been calculated from many individual scores), it will have a simple row/column layout that can be exported to Excel.
- Crosstab Report Type. A crosstab report - sometimes known as a pivot table - is used to display aggregate or grouped data, often with data-driven columns comparing data by date or category. A crosstab report can be identified from the term 'across' in its title. Crosstabs are especially useful for analyzing and comparing data in aggregate. Find more information on specific reports here.
Mastery by Course vs Proficiency
- "Mastery by Course" in the report title indicates that the data is aggregated per course. Read more here: Mastery by Course Tables. Also includes "Course Mastery" reports.
- "Proficiency" in the report title indicates that the data is aggregated across courses. Read more here: Proficiency Report Tables and Proficiency Crosstab Reports.
Terms
- Folders. All reports are organized into folders according to the data type and/or purpose of the report. Folder names should help you quickly narrow your search.
- Report Titles. We are committed to using strong naming conventions for our reports in order to make it easier to tell exactly what data and format to expect based on title of the report. Here are a few key words to pay attention to in report titles:
- "across" indicates that you will be viewing a Crosstab report (also known as a pivot table) with column groups formed on the listed fields
- "for Export" in a title indicates that the report will include ID numbers to make them machine-friendly. Without this keyword, reports are generally designed to be human-friendly.
- Report Descriptions. Each report is accompanied by a description that includes the contents of the report and/or poses the type of question(s) the report is designed to answer.
- Search. Use the search box above the list of reports to search based on the folder, title, and description to quickly locate reports by keyword.
